Challenge-Christmas Basket-Homemade Canned Goods

by Teres

ready for decorative idea

This is really not a gift basket yet. However maybe the webmaster will take similar size jars - 1/2 pint, pint and quart jars in this picture add crackers or chips or breads to make an attractive basket.

I made the sliced sweet pickles, picante, tomato juice, apple butter and strawberry preserves this summer with the intent to give as gifts but have no idea how to package up to give away.

My idea was to add squares of cloth cut with pinking shears secured with rubber band and ribbon, line a box with some rumpled tissue paper, specialty crackers and maybe a decorative knife, put the top on and gift. Anything better I can do?

Sounds wonderful. You are right they are heavy which would require a sturdy something.

Thanks for the help.

Webmasters suggestions for gift presentation
by: Jackie

I can see that these gifts are probably quite heavy so my suggestion would be either a sturdy gift box or a wicker type tray. Add some paper shred first to the bottom of the box or tray (for added protection) and then cover neatly with a good quality tea cloth. Lay your jars down with the labels facing up, try to fit them all in snugly (no breakages this way) and add any other treats that you may be using. Try gourmet crackers, cheeses, biscotti, even specialty coffees or teas if it's appropriate. Either use a lid for the box or cellophane wrap go to my assembly page and basket wrapping pages for more instructions and pictures!) Lastly add a gorgeous bow and you're done! Hope this helps.

Webmasters suggestions for labels.
by: Jackie

First of all, great idea to make your own gifts, and what yummy ones at that! I would stick with your idea of adding material tops as that's always pretty. If you can embroider a simple chain stitch it's a nice touch to embroider the name of the preserve on to the material top. Or use a nice bright patterned material and stick with plain labels in a complementary color.
