Any kind of edible fruit arrangements such as fruit bouquets and edible fruit baskets not only look amazing, naturally they are are GOOD FOR YOU TOO making them a fantastic gift for all manner of celebrations and occasions.

An edible fruit basket makes a delightful centerpiece for a baby or bridal shower, or to give as a lovely Easter celebration basket.

What could be a more perfect way of saying thank you, or welcome home, or I love you!

What You'll Need

A metal flower shaped cookie cutter to cut out the flower shapes from the pineapple rings. If you intend making lots of edible fruit baskets consider purchasing a Flower Cookie Cutters Set so that you can vary the size of the flowers for your basket.

You will also need a cutting board, a sharp knife, a melon baller, bamboo skewers for your flower stems and a pair of kitchen scissors or something to cut these with.

A suitable container such as a vase or a pail and Styrofoam (found in the floral dept) to fill your container with.

Depending on the shape of your container and how much fruit you use your flower fruit baskets could be a little or a lot top-heavy so make sure you add a few pebbles or similar to the bottom of your container if you need to.

Remember that any cut fruit will discolor if left for too long, so speed is the name of the game when making edible fruit arrangements. Your finished basket also needs to be kept COOL so take extra care when transporting to your gift recipient!

It’s also a good idea to read through all the instructions BEFORE you start cutting!

How to Make Edible Fruit Baskets

1. Prepare your container.

  • Use something heavy in the base if you need to and fill your container with Styrofoam.

*Tip When assembling your skewers thread the fruit to the end of the skewers and take care not to leave the pointy ends uncovered, they can be very sharp! If your stems are too long, break or cut them from the other end, before you insert them into the Styrofoam.

2. Prepare your fruit.

  • Cut the pineapple into rings about 3/4 of an inch thick.

  • Using your cookie cutter cut out the flower shapes.

  • Make the melon balls and use them as the centers for your flowers.

  • Thread the pineapple onto the skewer then follow with the melon ball.

  • Thread a few grapes on to a skewer, use black red or green for varety.

  • Strawberries are brilliant for adding color, add dark or milk chocolate covered strawberries to your edible fruit arrangements for special occasions.

*Tip It's best to use more skewers rather than less so your basket looks nice and full. If you do end up with more gaps than you would like, try filling them in with something green! Parsley or even mint will do the job nicely.

Vary your edible fruit baskets by using other shapes to suit different occasions. Cut out heart shapes from watermelon for a cute and yummy Valentine's Day gift basket idea or use cantaloupe to make tree shapes for your homemade Christmas gift baskets

Get creative with your edible fruit basket, and don't be afraid to experiment!
