Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Recipe

Looking for a simple but tantalizing homemade spaghetti sauce recipe that you can whip up in no time and add to your Italian pasta gift basket?

Homemade pasta sauce recipes are really easy to make and you can vary the taste quite substantially by adding different types of herbs, garlic, vegetables, even wine.

Use your homemade spaghetti sauce as a tasty base for your pizzas or add to mince for a delicious and super quick spaghetti bolognese.

homemade spaghetti sauce Homemade Spaghetti Sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 clove garlic crushed
1 onion sliced
1 tablespoon tomato paste
2 14oz cans chopped tomatoes
salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 cup chopped fresh basil

  1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan over a medium heat. Add the garlic and onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until just soft but
    don't let them brown.

  2. Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring constantly for 1 minute. This helps to give the sauce a richer flavor rather than just plonking it in!

  3. Add the canned tomatoes, turn down the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, until thickened.

  4. Stir through the salt and pepper, sugar, basil and parsley. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.

This mixture will make about 4 cups.

Pomodoro Homemade Pasta Sauce

2 onions
6 cloves garlic
1 cup white wine
1 cup tomato paste
2 14oz cans chopped tomatoes
salt and freshly ground black pepper

  1. Peel and dice the onions finely, chop garlic. Saute the onions and garlic together in the oil for about 3 minutes on a medium heat or until they become transparent.

  2. Add white wine, simmer gently until the liquid is reduced by half.

  3. Add the tomato paste and canned tomatoes and cook for a further 5 minutes.

  4. Add salt and freshly ground pepper to taste.

Once your sauce has cooled down pour into a suitable pasta sauce bottle. Add your own designer label and you have the perfect homemade addition to your Italian pasta gift basket!

Just remember that without the addition of preservatives your homemade spaghetti sauce recipe will not last as long as a store bought one. Best to make it as close to the time of giving as you can and don't forget to pop a best before date on the label too.
